FAQ.

At 14forty Scouting, we know coaches, scouts, and players all approach the game from different perspectives. Whether you’re a coach looking for reliable evaluations, a scout interested in joining our network, or a player wondering how evaluations work, we’ve outlined the most common questions below.

For College Coaches

Q: Are 14forty evaluations NCAA compliant?
A: Yes. Our evaluation process and subscription model are built around NCAA guidelines for scouting services to ensure full compliance.

Q: What do I get with a subscription?
A: You’ll receive full access to our player database, detailed evaluations, and monthly reports delivered directly to your inbox. The database is updated regularly with new evaluations from high school games and tournaments nationwide.

Q: Can I request evaluations on specific players?
A: Yes. While our scouts cover games and events across the country, we also accept requests from college programs. Requested players are prioritized whenever possible.

Q: How often is the database updated?
A: New evaluations are added weekly as our scouts attend games and tournaments.

For Scouts

Q: Who can become a 14forty Scout?
A: We look for individuals with basketball knowledge, strong observation skills, and a passion for evaluating talent. Previous coaching or playing experience is helpful but not required.

Q: How do I get certified?
A: Every scout completes the 14forty Certification Program, which covers evaluation standards, NCAA compliance, and reporting tools. This ensures consistency across our network.

Q: Do scouts get paid?
A: Certified scouts are compensated for approved evaluations and event coverage. More details are provided once you complete the certification process.

Q: Can I scout part-time?
A: Yes. Many of our scouts balance this work with other careers. The key is consistency and accuracy in reporting.

For Players & Parents

Q: Why should my son or daughter get an evaluation?
A: An evaluation provides an objective view of strengths, weaknesses, and projected college level (D1, D2, D3, NAIA, or JUCO). It’s valuable feedback that goes beyond highlight reels and gives coaches real insight into a player’s game.

Q: Will an evaluation guarantee a scholarship?
A: No. An evaluation does not guarantee recruiting outcomes. It provides accurate information that helps coaches assess players — the rest depends on performance, academics, and fit with a program.

Q: How do players get evaluated?
A: Players or parents can request an evaluation through our website. When our scouts are in the gym, performances are documented and added to the database.

Q: Can players improve their evaluations over time?
A: Yes. As a player develops and continues to perform in games and events, new evaluations can be added, showing growth and progress.
